The Department of Commerce (Morning) at The Bhawanipur Education Society College organised an industrial visit to the manufacturing facility of G. D. Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., makers of Boroline, at Chakbagi, Bishnupur, South 24 Parganas, on 29 August 2026. With 25 participants, including students and faculty members, the visit provided an opportunity to step beyond textbooks and witness the processes behind one of India’s most recognisable heritage personal-care products.
Following the factory’s protocol, the delegation was divided into two smaller batches for the tour. This allowed the students to explore the facility in an organised manner while adhering to the plant’s safety regulations and production schedule.
Boroline’s story itself offered an interesting business perspective. Tracing its origins to 1929, when Gour Mohun Dutta began developing indigenous products during the Swadeshi era, the distinctive green tube has grown into a familiar name across generations. Manufactured by G. D. Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Boroline’s journey provided students with an insight into how consistency, consumer trust, and a strong brand identity can contribute to the longevity of a product.
During the facility tour, students were introduced to the disciplined environment of a modern manufacturing unit. They observed how hygiene, safety, and process discipline are maintained throughout production. The visit also familiarised them with technology-enabled manufacturing and packaging, quality-assurance checkpoints, process monitoring, and documentation. These observations helped students understand how efficiency and consistency are maintained at different stages of industrial operations.

One of the major learning points was the importance of quality assurance. The students learnt how controlled production practices, standardisation, skilled manpower, and proper documentation play a role in maintaining the quality of a product. The visit also allowed them to relate these observations to concepts studied in commerce and management, particularly production management, quality control, and process standardisation.
Beyond the manufacturing process, Boroline also emerged as a case study in long-term brand building. Its history demonstrated how product consistency and consumer confidence, supported by disciplined operations, can help a brand remain relevant over several decades. Its Swadeshi-era beginnings further offered students a perspective on indigenous entrepreneurship and manufacturing.
The visit also had an interactive element, as some students were interviewed by the management after observing the manufacturing process. They were able to share their experiences and reflections from the plant visit, adding a personal dimension to the learning experience.
The industrial visit concluded as an enriching experience for the Department of Commerce (Morning). From understanding production and quality systems to appreciating the journey of a heritage Indian brand, the visit allowed students to connect classroom concepts with practical industrial operations.
The Department sincerely thanks the management and team of G. D. Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd. for their hospitality and cooperation in making the visit informative, engaging, and meaningful.
