Objective of the event: The conference aims to explore and showcase emerging developments in chemical sciences with a strong emphasis on sustainability and interdisciplinary research. It brings together students, research scholars, faculty, and industry professionals to engage with cutting-edge research, share insights, and discuss the role of chemistry in sustainable innovation and real-world applications.
Brief description of the event: The Department of Chemistry, The Bhawanipur Education Society College, successfully organized in collaboration with Indian Photobiology Society, Rani Rashmoni Green University and Uluberia College a One-Day International Conference titled “Emerging Trends in Chemical Sciences towards Sustainability & Interdisciplinarity–2026 (ETCSTSI–2026)” on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The conference brought together eminent scientists, academicians, research scholars, and students from across India and abroad to foster meaningful discussions on contemporary advances in the chemical sciences, with a focus on sustainability and interdisciplinary research.
The programme commenced with registration and hi-tea, followed by an inaugural session marked by insightful addresses from distinguished dignitaries. Dr. Saugata Konar, Convenor of the conference, welcomed the gathering and emphasized the need for collaborative scientific efforts to address global challenges. Dr. Pinki Saha Sardar, Vice Principal Science of The BES College, highlighted the institution’s commitment to promoting research culture and academic excellence. Addresses by Dr. Samir Kanti Datta, Dean of Science, The BES College; Prof. Chittaranjan Sinha, Secretary, Indian Photobiology Society; Dr. Kamalesh Das, Uluberia College; Dr. Pathik Maji, Rani Rashmoni Green University, enriched the inaugural proceedings.
The scientific sessions featured a series of keynote and invited lectures delivered by renowned scientists. The keynote lecture was delivered by Prof. Joe Otsuki of Nihon University, Japan, who spoke on Supramolecular Approach to Functional Materials based on Porphyrin Building Blocks.
Subsequent sessions included invited lectures delivered by distinguished speakers Prof. Alakesh Bisai (IISER Kolkata) and Dr. Biswajit Mondal (IIT Gandhinagar), who discussed recent advances in organic and medicinal chemistry. Subsequent sessions included lectures by Dr. Sourav Das (Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel), Dr. Pathik Maji (Rani Rashmoni Green University), and Prof. Chittaranjan Sinha (Jadavpur University), covering interdisciplinary research areas spanning molecular chemistry, materials science, and innovative synthetic strategies.
A major highlight of the conference was the parallel oral presentation sessions by young scientists, undergraduate and postgraduate students, providing a vibrant platform for budding researchers to showcase their work. The poster presentation session, involving students, research scholars, and faculty members, encouraged academic interaction and exchange of innovative ideas.

The conference concluded with an award distribution and valedictory session, during which Young Scientist Awards and Best Paper Presenter Awards were conferred. This was followed by participant feedback and a formal vote of thanks by the Jt. Convenors, Dr. Jaydeep Adhikary of Uluberia College and Dr. Sugata Samanta of The BES College. The event marked a significant academic milestone, underscoring the crucial role of chemical sciences in driving sustainable development and fostering interdisciplinary innovation.
