History Meets Storytelling: Amish Tripathi Live at BESC
The Bhawanipur Education Society College, in collaboration with the Kolkata Literary Meet and HarperCollins, proudly hosted the Kolkata launch of The Chola Tigers: Avengers of Somnath, the latest work by India’s bestselling mythological storyteller, Amish Tripathi. The event witnessed an impressive and fully engaged audience comprising students, faculty, literature enthusiasts, and members of the wider cultural community.
The evening unfolded as an enriching conversation between Amish and theatre practitioner–storyteller Kavita Gupta, who moderated the dialogue with insight and warmth. Together, they explored the deep historical and cultural threads woven into the book—particularly the legacy, power, and strategic brilliance of the Chola dynasty. Amish shared anecdotes from his research journey, the motivations behind the narrative, and his mission to present history beyond the traditional curriculum, making it accessible, inspiring, and proudly Indian.

The insightful conversation was followed by an interactive Q&A, where the audience posed thoughtful questions ranging from writing processes, Indian storytelling traditions, and the representation of history in pop culture, to philosophical interpretations woven into his narratives.
The event became even more special as Amish graciously inaugurated the first edition of the Department of Commerce (Morning) newsletter — Commerce Chronicle. The launch marked a meaningful milestone for the college, celebrating hard work, creativity, and collaborative spirit.
The evening concluded with applause, book signings, and heartfelt appreciation — truly a celebration of literature, culture, and community engagement at its best.
